There’s a commonly held belief that Dad’s are the hardest to buy for. Whether that’s true or not, we thought we’d have a go at putting together a list of awesome Christmas gifts Hawke’s Bay Dad’s can enjoy. Comment below this article your top three Christmas gifts you’d want to receive. You’ll notice a festive theme here!
1. Everyone needs their own fridge for beer.
You don’t want to be competing for space with that lettuce, or have the Christmas Ham taking up precious beer space. Getting a beer from a beer fridge just feels right.
2. Take Dad Mountain Biking out in Eskdale
PanPac Eskdale Mountain MTB Park is the home of mountain biking in Hawke’s Bay with over 100 km’s of track. Take Dad out for a bike on your favourite tracks, then stop in for a cold beer at the brewery on your way home. We’ll do a free tasting for both of your from the five craft beer taps we pour from each and every Saturday 11:30 – 4:30pm during summer (and of course Thursday – Friday 1- 6pm).
If you’re feeling extra giving this Christmas, pop a Mountain Bike tune-up voucher from Revolution Bikes in his stocking to make sure his bike is in tip top condition. View Bicycle Workshop.
3. Golflands Driving Range and Shop. Voucher to go to the Driving Range
Golflands on the outskirts of Hastings operate a 9 hole golf course, driving range, tennis court and an 18 hole mini-putt. Choose your sport to challenge Dad to between Christmas and the New Year then get ready to rumble! No 5 Cafe is on site for the loser to buy the winner a round!
4. Chilly Bin Fishing
Going out fishing is one thing, keeping your fish chilled on the boat is another. Make sure Dad has the gear to do the job with a high capacity chilly bin for the biggest catch he can expect (plus room for a couple of cold ones in amongst the ice). They don’t come much better than the Techni Ice.
5. Speigelau Beer Glassware
Knowing you’ve got a proper set of beer glasses to rely on, makes enjoying that first beer all the more worthwhile. Don’t skimp by only getting Dad one; remember that the fun starts by enjoying a beer with mates. Spiegelau has developed four different beer glass types that support the characteristics of specific beer styles. Each of these glasses is especially thin blown, and has a thin rim that lifts the perception of mouth feel and taste. The beer specific glass shape supports the beer in releasing its full spectrum of flavours and delivers them to nose and mouth.
6. Active Dad’s with a sense of humour
Dad’s that play squash or tennis will thank you for this practical yet stylish gift when they come up against their next opponent. Sporting a headband is back in fashion and each set contains matching wristbands for those extra hot days!
7. Mixed Case Petane Station
A lot of Dad’s in Hawke’s Bay love their wine so get them something different they haven’t tried yet. Petane Station are aromatic white wine specialists having won multiple awards across their Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer (say it like Ga-Vertz) and Viognier (V-on-yay) that are guaranteed Dad pleasers. The Syrah is stunning coming straight from Hawke’s Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. A mixed half case and you’ll be Dad’s hero.
8. Take him to see a live gig at Cabana Bar.
In the unlikely event that you and your Dad have similar tastes in music, get along to a gig at the Cabana Bar. They have some top gigs coming up around Christmas including Temple of the Grunge (think Pearl Jam, Nirvana…), Metallica Tribute Band plus Jersey Bob and Monika.
A back up to the music idea is going to a comedy night at Cabana or Common Room.
9. Make mowing the Hawke’s Bay Quarter Acre Easy
Briggs & Straton engine and a 530mm cut zone, the Widecut has 190cc of pure grunt… making one of life’s weekend chores pure pleasure. No more struggling to start your mower, nice sharp blades cuts through that front and rear strips getting you back watching the cricket in no time.
LawnMaster Widecut is the ultimate mower for the suburban Hawke’s Bay lawn – everyone’s backyard mower.
10. Christmas Keg of his favourite beer.
Christmas Keg’s are a present that Dad and all his friends can enjoy. Memories are made of these things. Book in a Christmas Keg to enjoy in January once any wayward New Year’s resolutions have worn off.
11. Afternoon’s are for relaxing. Take your time on the BBQ
Gas BBQ’s are out. Charcoals BBQ’s are in. There’s something about Weber cooked meat that makes it taste better. Maybe it’s the charcoal, maybe it’s the indirect cooking or maybe it’s ritual of lighting the fire.
