Brewers Notes – October 2020

Brewer’s Notes is a monthly update of the latest happenings at the brewery through the eyes of Head Brewer Christopher Barber.

Spring is in the air with warmer weather, longer days and the hops outside the brewery are starting to move from their winter slumber.

A big thank you to those who made it out to The Weekender here at the brewery during the first weekend of September. Great food, great beer, great wine with great people. That’s what we are all about here at ZB; taking time out from the busy world and spending it with friends and family.

During The Weekender we released a sneak peak of the 2020 edition of Mary Smith. Those with a good memory will remember we debuted this beer last year as a seasonal release. In 2019 it was a Gose with sour cherry and this year we’ve released it as a Brut Pils. It was very well received, and we will be bottling it soon so keep an eye out for it.

Warmer weather and longer days mean we are busy keeping the tanks full as well as packaging and getting beer out the door. Watch out for the first part of our 3-part video of the brewing process to get an idea of what goes on inside the brewery – Click HERE to watch.

We were also awarded a Gold, Silver & Bronze in Capital Magazine’s Food & Beer issue this month. Our Jerry Rig managed to make The Six Pack – Six of the beers that scored 5 out of 5 from the judges. Black Monk also featured in the Black Lager category and our Saison, Worker’s Unite, featured in ‘The Others’ category. You can read more about what the judges thought HERE.

We have released our new Guv’nor – ESB and bottles are available now. We lightened up the malt bill by replacing the ‘fruit cake’ malt profile and firmed it up with a solid biscuit malt backbone while pepping it up with exciting UK and US hops.

During the long weekend we will be open each day from 12 – 4pm for tasting and sales and each Saturday after that throughout summer. If you have friends up over that weekend or over summer, then bring them to the brewery during our tasting hours. During the week we continue to open for sales between 9am and 5pm.
