The German Oktoberfest starts on 26th September and there’s a bit of ceremony involved. At noon, the Mayor of Munich will have the honour of tapping the first keg of Oktoberfest beer. Once the barrel has been tapped, all visitors will then be allowed to quench their thirst. The festival lasts until October 4th.
Hawke’s Bay Oktoberfest
Hawke’s Bay Oktoberfest starts on the same day, and this year The Rose and Shamrock in Havelock North will be the place to celebrate, with a wide range of beers on tap. Zeelandt Brewery Schwarzbier will be pouring throughout Ocktoberfest.
Cheers during Oktoberfest
In german Prost means “cheers”, as a salutation accompanied by beer. In a bar it is said commonly followed shortly by a toast. Prost!
