In 1864 Maximilian the First set off from Austria to become the Emperor of Mexico. While he was there he did a lot of good, but the Mexicans killed him anyway even though they quite liked him. They also quite liked the Austrian style lager he brought with him. Which they didn’t kill.
Instead, developed it into a unique, Mexican-Austrian style lager that’s now world famous. It’s probably not the legacy that poor old Maximillian was aiming for, but better than his nephew’s, whose death ignited World War I.
